Description

The Foundation's Advancing the Culture of Health Prize initiative was designed to increase the visibility, influence, and reach of the RWJF Culture of Health Prize. This 2023 RWJF Culture of Health Prize honors the city of Tacoma, Washington, for its accomplishments. An annual national competition that awards $250,000 to winning communities, the Prize recognizes communities working at the forefront of advancing health, opportunity, and equity for all. Although each community looks different, they all show the nation what a Culture of Health can look like and demonstrate what is possible. Richard Besser, MD, RWJF president and CEO, noted the value of the Prize winners' contributions: 'RWJF Culture of Health Prize winners are striving to make good health and wellbeing achievable for all their residents. They understand the clear connection between the opportunity for health and education, jobs, and housing. They are leaning into community-led solutions that break down barriers caused by structural racism and other forms of discrimination.'
