Description
We have an urgent need for a new probe for our 500 MHz NMR spectrometer. The current probe is broken beyond repair in some instances (15N), works very poorly in others (solvent suppression) and has no capability to observe the nucleus fluorine. The 500 MHz spectrometer is the workhorse solution-state instrument in the Dalhousie NMR3 facility and serves a large number of researchers in the Maritimes with a broad spectrum of interests. The new probe will enable the study of chemical and biological systems at a molecular level with capabilities not currently achievable within the Maritimes. Acquisition of the new probe will permit us to significantly expand our research capacity by enhancing our ability to obtain high quality research data for publication, and will provide access to new NMR techniques and experiments for the training of highly qualified personnel. There will be no loss of functionality on the spectrometer by installing a Bruker SmartPROBE whatsoever. The SmartPROBE will be available for all researchers using the 500 MHz spectrometer at the Dalhousie NMR3 facility, not just the applicants listed on this proposal.
