Big Data Analytics is a new field of research that aims to support decision makers in deriving actionableknowledge from Big Data sources, which include social media text, semi-structured records of maintenanceand safety in large-scale manufacturing, customer relationship data, online social networks, and other sourcesof data relevant to business. The proposed workshop aims to bring together key industry players in AtlanticCanada with two large companies (Boeing through its affiliate Aeroinfo Systems, and IBM Canada) and acritical mass of Canadian academics with expertise in the enabling technologies for Big Data Analytics todesign an industry research agenda for Atlantic Canada, and promote networking among the participantstowards future research partnerships. The two-day partnerships workshop will follow a three-day summerschool in Visual Analytics, and it will give the opportunity to school attendees (faculty and students) tobrainstorm on a research agenda together with the industry participants. Professor Daniel Keim, aninternational leader in the field of Visual Analytics, will participate in both the summer school and thepartnerships workshop.
