Description
Injury surveillance, capacity-building, and networking have been identified by the CIHR-sponsored Listening for Direction Initiative (LFDI)initiative as national injury priorities. Existing gaps in surveillance (data collection, analysis, and reporting) and capacity-building need to be addressed by a multidisciplinary team. The first step in addressing these gaps is to develop and validate a set of national injury indicators that reflect and monitor identified prevention priorities. The goal of this proposal is to support the development of a multidisciplinary, cross-pillar research team that will undertake the preliminary analyses, team-building, and networking required to identify and/or develop national injury indicators, and to prepare future applications to granting agencies to validate these indicators. The initial focus of this team will be on indicators related to: Overall Health Services Implications of Injury; Motor Vehicle Occupant Injury; Sports, Recreation and Leisure Injury; Intentional Injury; and Trauma Care, Quality and Outcomes.
