Description

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related causes of dementia is becoming more common among older individuals in Canada and across the world. While progress is being made, no effective drugs for AD and other dementias is available for patients. In this grant proposal, we address the critical need for new drugs in AD and the dementias by pooling together scientists and resources across the country to accelerate drug development. We take advantage of existing infrastructure to perform dementia research, funded by taxpayer money, to implement our innovative program. The program is further integrated with patient representatives and health policy makers to ensure patient concerns and priorities guides the drug development plan, and that results can quickly lead to health policy changes. Our proposed drug development network aims to produce 2 drugs with promising treatment potential AD or the dementias within a 5-year period. the results could have a tangible effect on the treatment of dementia, and the preservation of healthy aging across the nation.
