Project Details

Description

Alcohol usage use in college populations is high. Two out of five college students binge drink; which means that over 426,000 Canadian college students consume alcohol. Alcohol use can lead to clinical depression, alcohol dependence, academic failure, sexual assault victimization, and a variety of alcohol related injuries. This project will examine the differences of what individuals expect alcohol to do for them (have a good time versus cause a hangover the next day), and how their motivation drives (wanting excitement versus wanting to avoid anxiety) influence the formation of these expectancies. Since certain individuals consume more alcohol than others, this project will help elucidate how these differences influence attitudes towards alcohol.
