Description

This business case is a compilation of priorities and activities that emerged through consultations with local, provincial and maritime-wide stakeholders over the past year. It reflects the priority needs of our regional partners within the context of four core components: (i) Data Platform and Services, (ii) Learning Health System, (iii) Capacity Development, and (iv) Patient Engagement, and within a cross-cutting theme: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity. The business case reflects opportunities to share, coordinate and co-promote resources and supports; and identifies where the MSSU can provide targeted support. With the ultimate target of sustainability, the 2020 Business Plan will prioritize extending our regional presence and impact through new and existing partnerships and collaborations; improving access to and navigation of provincial data to inform decision making in practice, policy, and research; enhancing the engagement and experience of our Patient Partners; being a leader and resource for meaningful equity, diversity and inclusivity in health research across the Maritimes; and working with provincial health authority and government partners to support the establishment of Learning Health Systems. Improving healthcare practice and policy through the implementation of leading research relies on the opportunity to bring key stakeholder groups together to identify priority issues, exchange knowledge and perspectives, synthesize leading-edge evidence, and to implement and evaluate new approaches. The MSSU sits at an intersection between key stakeholders and is equipped with the resources and expertise needed to broker these relationships and mobilize knowledge. Through its strong partnerships, skilled staff, and evidence-informed tools and resources, the MSSU is well-positioned to fuel improvement in health service delivery and health outcomes across the Maritimes.
