Persistent lymphopenia as a prognostic biomarker of hospital mortality in critically ill patients

Persistent low levels of lymphocytes (lymphopaenia), a type of white blood cell, have been shown to independently predict mortality in patients who are diagnosed with sepsis. This retrospective observational study aims to further investigate the prognostic value of persistent lymphopaenia in patients who are admitted to ICU, with and without sepsis. To achieve this, a deidentified dataset with all non-elective admissions from 2015-2018 inclusive will be extracted from the ICU databases at the PAH and RBWH. The data will be analysed by statisticians at the George Institute.
