Planning a National Limb Loss Registry

Limb loss can negatively affect individuals' physical and mental health and their quality of life. In Canada, we have limited information about the size, scope, and impact of amputations to inform decisions about health care and health policy for people with limb loss. Clinical registries are popular tools used internationally to organize patient clinical and demographic information, facilitate public reporting, accelerate research and support health service improvements. Our aim is to support the development of a national limb loss clinical registry that will advance research, health system improvements, and support advocacy efforts. To achieve this goal, we will identify what data are currently collected and engage with a range of stakeholders to identify indicators that should be part of the clinical registry. Once agreement is achieved, our team will work to find ways to move the clinical registry into action.
