Description
DPA Industries Inc. is a Canadian corporation with over 15 years experience producing and exportingCanadian-made omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid products. The flagship product is DPA GOLD Omega-3; ahighly refined and purified omega-3, available in oil and capsule form. The business and its products are called'DPA' after docosapentaenoic acid - a third important component found in omega-3.Metabolic dysfunction leads to deregulation of cellular homeostasis thereby altering the metabolism of the cell.Amongst the various dietary products that have been implicated in normal cellular function are the omega-3and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n3-PUFAs/n6-PUFAs). Despite decades of research, detailedunder-standing of how PUFAs improve cell function is not fully understood. Given consumer interest indifferent sources of n3-PUFA, we will compare the effects of docosapentanoic acid (DPA; DPA Industries Inc)and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; Enzo Life Sciences) from marine sources, and on cell metabolism andmitochondria function.Overall, the outcome of our study will determine whether there are differences between the various sources ofn3-PUFA, at the molecular level. We will analyze the effects of DPA vs DHA treatment on mitochondriafunction and cell migration, providing DPA Industries with scientific data to support their claims of thebeneficial effects of n3-PUFA DPA on cell biology. This will allow a framework from which to market theirproduct amongst marine sources of n3-PUFA.
