Project Details

Description

Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) will conduct a 12 month feasibility study to evaluate and monitor wind regimes and design variables, followed by a field test application of Suwira technology on one of two TCHC buildings. Suwira Corporation is a wind turbine design, manufacturing and service company that produces innovative, architectural wind turbines for installation on existing and new buildings which reduce noise emissions, provide less of a visual distraction, operate at lower speeds and decrease the hazards associated with objects such as ice or birds. Following the conclusion of the study period, final construction details and drawings for manufacturing purposes will be developed between Suwira and the manufacturers, allowing for the field test installation to begin approximately 3 to 5 months after the design is finalized. Suwira will then undertake continuous monitoring and turbine performance assessment on an ongoing basis during the field test. A value management exercise will be carried out after at least 6 months of wind survey data has been recorded in order to re-examine all project design parameters in the context of cost and schedule. TCHC estimates that installation of each Suwira wind turbine will result in the generation of 200,000 KWh of clean energy annually.
