Abstract

The relationship between mortality from ischemic heart disease and alcoholic beverage consumption in 27 countries was investigated. A significant inverse correlation was obtained between mortality due to ischemic disease and percent contribution to alcohol consumption by wine (r = -0.75, P < 0.001). A positive correlation (r = 0.60., P < 0.001) was obtained between ischemic heart disease and alcohol consumption from beer.
