Abstract

In the introduction of their review the authors summarize the pharmacological profile of an atypical neuroleptic preparation olanzapine. The main indication of the drug is treatment of schizophrenic psychoses. In the contemporary literature with increasing frequency studies are encountered dealing with the use of olanzapine in the treatment of impaired mood (depressive disorder, bipolar disorder). The authors recapitulate the psychiatric literature on the subject published hitherto. Double blind studies provide preliminary evidence of the effectiveness of olanzapine in the acute treatment of a depressive disorder and manic episode in the framework of a bipolar affective disorder.
