Abstract

This work seeks to understand the macrophage response to intact and damaged extracellular matrix, as presented in clinically-relevant decellularized tissue. Such new information is essential for designing tissue-based biomaterials that will be biocompatible and perform long-term as predicted. This model of macrophage response to biomaterials may also allow for accelerated in vitro testing, identifying biomaterials that will have the best biological performance in vivo.
