Abstract

This special issue consists of 29 individually authored papers divided into seven sections. The first, entitled "Conservation', contains five papers, for instance: a global perspective on the utilization of genetically modified organisms in aquaculture and fisheries; and evidence for genetic purity of capture and domestic striped bass broodstocks. The second section contains four papers on general genetics. Four papers concerned with chromosome manipulation follow. Next, three papers on molecular manipulation are presented. The fifth section consists of eight papers reviewing current advances regarding quantitative genetics in aquaculture. Three papers on hybrids and strains follow. The final section (two papers) looks at the performance of polyploid fish. -S.R.Harris
