Abstract

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: Principle research objective To determine the effectiveness of organisational and professional interventions on the uptake of research evidence in Emergency Practice Settings. Secondary research objective To determine which factors might modify the uptake of research evidence in Emergency Practice Settings. We will explore the following possible effect modifiers across studies: Content: interventions that target a specific topic or behavior in emergency medicine. Type of ED: rural or urban; pediatric, adult or mixed; private or public; primary or tertiary; public or private. Health professional targeted (single or interdisciplinary). Type of intervention. Cost of intervention. To address the objectives the following comparisons will be explored: Effectiveness of single organisational interventions compared with no intervention. Effectiveness of multiple organisational interventions compared with no intervention. Effectiveness of multiple organisational interventions compared with single interventions. Effectiveness of clinical practice guidelines compared with no intervention. Effectiveness of organisational interventions and clinical practice guidelines compared with no intervention. Effectiveness of clinical practice guidelines with other professional interventions compared with clinical practice guidelines and no intervention.
