Description
AARMS is an institute based in Atlantic Canada serving a large and vigorous community of over 190 Canadian mathematical sciences researchers (aarms.math.ca). The institutes programs provide unique and varied support to activity in the region that is not available from other bodies. Our mission is to strengthen research and education in the mathematical sciences, with special focus on Atlantic Canada. The institute fosters regional, national, and international scientific collaborations; provides outstanding educational opportunities; and supports initiatives that raise interest and competence in mathematics among the public in general, and students in particular. AARMS is funded by the Governments of Canada, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, as well as its eleven member universities.Major AARMS programs include our annual Summer School to train the next generation of Canadas mathematical sciences leaders; Industrial Problem Solving Workshops to leverage expertise residing in academia to drive Atlantic Canadian economic growth; Conference and Workshop support to showcase the regions first-rate scientific activity to a national and international audience; a Postdoctoral Fellowship program that attracts the worlds best researchers to Atlantic Canada; and many Outreach activities aimed at bolstering the scientific literacy of all Atlantic Canadians. The mathematical sciences are central to any advanced research ecosystem and economy, and AARMS is an essential element in securing the regions future prosperity.
