Detalles del proyecto

Description

The Biochemistry Analyzer to be purchased from this Research Tools and Instruments grant will support the activities of researchers at Dalhousie University working in areas relating to bioprocess engineering. This equipment will enable the characterization of various feedstocks and analysis of important components (e.g. sugars, ethanol, etc) during biological conversion processes. The analysis will enable such processes to be optimized and to increase efficiency. Research that will be supported includes the production of novel jadomycin antibiotics by fermentation. Other research involves the conversion of waste materials (e.g. food processing wastes, fish processing wastes, animal rendering wastes, agricultural biomass, etc.) into valuable products (e.g. biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas, organic acids, biodegradable plastics, deicing agents, chitin, single cell protein, fish feed, animal feed, various nutraceuticals and pharmaceutical products).
