Description

Canadian stroke researchers have been past leaders in the field of stroke treatment. We are now proposing to build upon that past reputation and build a strong national network of clinical stroke researchers who will take stroke treatment, stroke prevention and stroke rehabilitation and recovery to the next level. We will build a new coalition between two existing organizations - Canadian Stroke Consortium (Acute stroke and stroke prevention) and the Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery (Stroke rehabilitation) - to span the stroke continuum of care. Over the next 5 years, we propose to bring new treatments to patients to restore brain function, new treatments to prevent stroke in the first place and new strategies for rehabilitation to improve function after stroke. We will teach the next generation of stroke physicians and providers and we will integrate patients and the public in our efforts. Our overall aim is to improve the health and quality of life of stroke patients and their caregivers, for better outcomes for all Canadians.
