Detalles del proyecto

Description

This proposal is to develop a computational platform for research in climate and air quality. The specific hardware requirements are a parallel environment with efficient interprocessor communication. The proposed infrastructure will form an essential part of the research program of the Atmospheric Composition Analysis Group at Dalhousie University. The infrastructure will be used for satellite retrievals of atmospheric composition, and interpretation of observations using a global numerical model of atmospheric composition. Expected results include improved estimates of global emissions of atmospheric pollution, analysis of the long range transport of pollution from Asia to Canada, and an improved understanding of the effect of changes in atmospheric composition on climate. The infrastructure will form an integral part of the training of students and postdoctoral fellows in roles such as algorithm development, high performance computing, satellite remote sensing of atmospheric composition, and numerical modelling of atmospheric pollution.
