Description

As COVID-19 vaccination efforts have accelerated in Canada, reports of vaccine-induced complications, including inflammation of the heart have emerged. We have collated the worldwide experience, and together with colleagues and experts convened by Canada's Chief Science Officer, Dr. Mona Nemer, the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada, we have identified major gaps in knowledge in this new condition. Therefore, we and other investigators across the country have joined efforts to start a prospective registry, to attempt to better understand this new condition, and potential causes, natural history, and potential mitigation strategies. With the registry cohort, we aim to improve our ability to properly diagnose, predict complicatons, gain insight into the reason for some individuals to develop the condition, and means to minimize its consequences. With Delta variant increasing, and vaccine booster in the plans, more individuals will be exposed to this risk on an ongoing basis. We aim to lead the research in this condition with our patients and experts across Canada.
