Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which include Crohn¿s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis is chronic debilitating disease of gut with no cure. The management of IBD involve medication and life-style modification. This research project aims to develop and evaluate personalized patient education programs specifically for IBD, that are (a) guided by best-evidence contained in clinical practice guidelines (CPG); and (b) based upon longitudinal patient/community profile that is derived from patient/community data. In order to support longitudinal adaptive educational program we will be incorporating behavior change models, such as Health Belief Models, Stages of Change Models etc. While designing this intervention these models would enable us to identify that what behaviors are changeable and what are the most suitable target areas for change. CPG are guidelines for health care practitioners, developed by the domain expert to to assisit them in patient care decisions. The use of CPG, to generate health educational interventions is a novel idea, and it is expected to provide a degree of objectivity to the entire process of generating personalized and focused health educational content. The research will additionally evaluate the impact of personalized health education towards patient compliance and improvement in health outcomes.
