Description
The Finnish-Japanese bilateral symposium (FJ-2016) 'Integration of photosynthesis with cellular metabolism: towards sustainable bioeconomy' was held 5-10th of September 2016 in Saariselkä, Finland. The financial support granted by the Academy of Finland and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) was essential in organizing this meeting which gathered together the Finnish and Japanese researchers from different academic institutions. The FJ-2016 bilateral symposium, for the first time, was organized by early stage team leaders from both sides. A total of 37 participants attended (21 from Finland and 16 from Japan). The leading plant and cyanobacterial scientists from both countries presented their most current and inspiring research. The symposium focused the attention of the delegates on the importance and urgency of taking action on establishing a foundation for joint efforts in the transition to sustainable bio-based economies in both countries.
