Indigenous Boys' and Men's Sexual Health: A community inspired framework for culturally-based interventions

The conditions of racism, discrimination and prejudice that a generation of Indigenous boys and men have lived in have created poorer sexual health outcomes. Through institutionalization in residential schools and incarceration, many Indigenous men have experienced sexualized violence. Their cultures and identities have been negatively impacted by these experiences. Boys and men often have a skewed sense of masculinity in the wake of such experiences. This research seeks to investigate the state of sexual disorientation from male to male sexual assault and abuse and the use of illicit injection drugs as a coping mechanism. These issues will be taken up through a community-driven, culturally-based intervention framework.
