Description
This program will develop optical glass for a variety of high value-added applications from a fundamental point of view. Using a combination of advanced experimental and theoretical methods, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, acousto-optic diffraction, and density functional theory calculations, glasses with optimized response to environmental factors will be developed. Targeted applications include glass with broad-banded response to stress, glass with minimized scattering loss for high power optical fibers, and glass with highly optically responsive embedded crystals for optical device fabrication.
