Description
In this project, we propose to monitor dental resin curing dynamics in real time using a highly accurate surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based optical sensor technique. We will explore both linear SPR sensing modality, where the position of an intensity dip of a reflected light wave is monitored under the SPR condition and a nonlinear SPR sensing modality. The nonlinear SPR sensor operation principle is based on recently discovered by the PI spectral switches of sum-frequency reflected wave near the SPR condition when the resin is illuminated with broadband polychromatic light. We expect the novel technique to furnish our industrial partner, BlueLight Analytics with a highly accurate tool to determine the proper curing time for a wide set of dental resins and light curing units.
