The social issue and occupational therapy: a dialogue between the Brazilian social occupational therapy and an international perspective

This is an application to request the visiting of the Professor Elizabeth Townsend, emeritus professor at Dalhousie University (Canada) in order to collaborate with the activities developed by METUIA Laboratory - Federal University of São Carlos, UFSCar, in Social Occupational Therapy field. Since 2013, when Dr. Townsend supervised the postdoctoral fellowship of the one researcher from METUIA laboratory, we started this partnership. Dr. Elizabeth Townsend has been developed through different actions, namely: preparation of studies proposals, articles and papers on congress. This is consequence of interests around what has been denominating in Brazil as "Social Occupational Therapy" and the concept of "Occupational Justice", created by the researcher in Canada. The program proposal can be summarized in four activities. The first is the discussion and analysis of partial results of the research project "Social issues and occupational therapy: mapping the discussion and building international dialogues". The second activity is directed to Master, PhD and post-doctoral students from the METUIA UFSCar Laboratory, with an emphasis on methodological approaches in occupational therapy in social issues, based on the international reality. This activity would be focus on researchers projects in development. The third activity is an open class in Graduate Program in Occupational Therapy, UFSCar, during the course "Research Seminars in Occupational Therapy: Dissertation and Thesis" talking about methodologies. The forth activity is the participation of Dr. Elizabeth Townsend in the III International Social Occupational Therapy Seminar, through an opening conference and the launch of the book Social Occupational Therapy: theoretical designs and practical outlines (Original title: Terapia Ocupacional Social: Desenhos Teóricos e Contornos Práticos), Foreword by Dr. Townsend. In this moment it is planned a meeting with researchers from others METUIA groups: Universidade de São Paulo (São Paulo / SP), Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Santos/SP), Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Vitória/ES) e da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (São Carlos/SP). They should be present at the Seminar, among others, with specific activities focused on researches, at different levels. With the realization of this proposal, it is expected an international discussion about researches in development at the METUIA Laboratory - UFSCar, from an international perspective, which is very important in occupational therapy context.
