Description

This Canada Research Chair will support research into next-generation materials for the electronics industry and lay the foundation for scalable quantum computation. The objective is to control quantum states of electrons in nanostructured semiconductors with a laser system that produces short bursts of light. The experiments are referred to as "ultrafast spectroscopy" because the laser pulses are only 100 femtoseconds in duration, providing the ability to study and control quantum states with extremely high time precision. Due to the importance of home-grown innovation in these high technology areas, this research program will create valuable and lasting benefits to Canada.
