Resumen
The authors demonstrate on a case-record the advantages of electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) in some types of schizophrenia in adolescents. ECT proves useful in particular in the most severe forms of the disease with a sudden onset and predominance of catatonic, affective or paranoid symptoms. They provide overall information on the effectiveness, undesirable effects and safety of ECT in childhood and adolescence. A review of the most important published papers pertaining to these age groups is presented. The problem of EEG in ECT is also mentioned.
