N2 - Bovine thoracic aortas were extracted with aqueous dextran, saline, and chloroformmethanol solutions in vitro. The data indicate that high molecular weight dextrans are capable of acting as lipid extractants. It is suggested that synthetic analogues of native ground-substance carbohydrates may possibly be of some use in reversing localized atherosclerotic foci by regional perfusion techniques.
