Resumen

In this paper, we are interested in the determination of the wave velocity and the shape of the lower interface of a geological layer from travel time measures. We start with the forward problem represented by the Eikonal equation and show how it can be solved using the method of characteristics. Then we describe the inverse problem formulated as a nonlinear least squares problem and the optimization method (the simulated annealing) used to solve it. Results corresponding to the second geological layer of an elastic medium are then presented. Finally, we consider the sensitivity of our estimations with respect to the error in the travel time measures using a singular value decomposition.
