Détails sur le projet

Description

Canadian fisheries operate with little formal input from fishers and other stakeholders and instead rely on biological assessments and political influence to allocate quotas and create a sustainable fishery. Yet social and cultural factors that affect how and why people fish directly impact sustainability. This project will develop a new approach to fisheries management for Canada that incorporates social and economic factors and considers the needs of fishers balanced with total catch. This research will uncover new opportunities for conservation while sustaining fishers¿ livelihoods across the country.
