Description
Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are essential in accomplishing two challenging goals: adequately sampling the ocean in time and space, and exploring the most remote regions on Earth: hadal trenches. Deep ocean profilers are a class of AUV capable of measuring ocean properties from surface to seabed. Such vehicles have been used to measure the structure of ambient sound in the deep ocean. New profilers will measure a range of oceanographic variables, operate in a continuous profiling mode, navigate in the horizontal and return data over the entire water column at a fixed coordinate, during deployments lasting months to a year.
