Description
Primary objective The aim of this mixed methods study is to strengthen the capacity of health professionals to care for women with complex psychosocial concerns in the perinatal period by designing, implementing and evaluating an interprofessional continuing education program for maternity clinicians. The PIPE-MC is an interactive experiential educational intervention. Planned sample size Approx. 600 health professionals who provide maternity care will participate in this study Approx. 15 representatives from professional organisations, education and perinatal/maternity services experts Approx. 15 lived experience consumers Selection criteria Maternity Clinicians in SouthEasternSydneyLHD, SouthernNSWLHD, WesternNSWLHD, Far WesternNSWLHD, Townsville Hospital Health Service, Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. Additional sites under negotiation in Darwin Hospital, Alice Springs and King Edward Memorial Hospital WA. Representatives from professional organisations, education and perinatal/maternity services experts Age range >18 years Ability to speak English Willingness to give written informed consent and willingness to participate to comply with the study Study procedure Phase 1 & 2 was approved in 2020ETH02624 Phase 3 included in this phase, will implement and evaluate the developed perinatal interprofessional psychosocial education program (PIPE-MC) co-designed in phases 1 & 2. Data collection in this phase will include a survey prior to and at completion of all the workshops with participating maternity clinicians at the study sites. A reflective discussion is offered 1 month post workshop. In addition, sub sample of participants will participate in an online focus group within two months after the training, and complete a survey at 6 months post training.
