Description
The aim of the planning grant, 'Shifting sands and rising tides: toward an understanding of the sexual health and related health care risks and needs of migratory workers,' is to build a research action plan that will address the health risks that migratory workers may face. By reviewing published an unpublished literature, holding regular telephone calls, hosting conversation cafes, and holding a two-day planning meeting, and a results sharing webinar, we plan to involve research team members, interested community members and government officials in every aspect of this work. At the end of our planning, we will have developed a list of priority projects which will include policy suggestions and at least one application for funding to a larger CIHR competition (Partnerships for Health System Improvement, Operating Grant). We expect to develop a plan to address identified gaps in knowledge, barriers to accessing health care services (e.g., testing, treatment), and risk taking behaviours that put migratory workers more at risk for getting HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs). We will share this information widely through our local, regional, and national partners.
