Résumé

Baroreceptor sensitivity and blood flow fluctuations were studied in normal calves during drug induced changes in systemic arterial pressure. These experiments show that the sensitivity of the baroreceptor system in calves is considerably less than in humans. Furthermore, the intrinsic mechanisms by which cardiac muscle force is adjusted to changes in arterial pressure load also appear to be poorly developed in the calf. The lack of correspondence of the sensitivity of the control mechanisms between the calf and man limits the applicability of results derived from calf experiments to human physiology.
