N2 - The effects of cyclic mechanical loading on cellular morphology and enzymatic markers of human macrophage activation, cholesterol esterase (CE) monocyte specific esterase (MSE), and acid phosphatase (AP) were investigated. It was observed that cell subjected to cyclic stretch exhibited multiple extensions of the cell body. It was also observed CE and MSE were elevated during 48 hour exposure to cyclic strain compared with control samples. The results show that cyclic mechanical deformation induces cellular morphological changes specially in the actin cycloskeleton.
