The authors deal in the submitted review first with panic disorders in general and with criteria of pharmacotherapeutic effectiveness in this diagnosis. They define drugs which proved useful in controlled and uncontrolled therapeutic trials of panic disorders. The authors analyze in more detail double blind, placebo controlled trials and present Boyer's meta- analysis of trials of antipanic treatment where selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors proved most effective.
