N2 - The population of Megaptera novaeangliae which was largely concentrated on Fylias bank is estimated to have numbered between 85-200 animals. At least some of the West Greenland humpbacks winter in the West Indies, together with those from Newfoundland/Labrador and the Gulf of Maine, but the Greenland animals are distinct from those which summer in these other areas.
